Istanbul Streetcar - Tramvay

Hashtag

At the peak of their service in the 1950s, Istanbul’s trams (called streetcars or trolleys by some) carried over 100 million people. Sadly, these unmistakable symbols of the City’s heritage went out of service in the 1960s. Fortunately, they returned in the form of “nostalgic” service serving Istanbul on both sides of the Bosphorus. The Taksim-Tünel line now serves the European side of Istanbul, while the Kadıköy-Moda line serves the Asian side of the City. One of Timur Ülker's favorite subjects is Istanbul, whether in the form of vendors on Eminönü Pier, or crowds outside Hagia Sofia. To him, painting is a means of indelibly freezing a static moment in time. But he also sees painting as a means of depicting the passage of time, and with it, the arrival of change.
