We are part of the Research Unit Emerging Grammars (RUEG) which investigates the linguistic systems and resources of bilingual speakers from families with an immigrant history, or heritage speakers. We are interested in learning how heritage speakers use both of their languages in different situations. See https://www.uni-potsdam.de/de/dspdg/projekte/rueg.html for further details. This research is supported by the Ministry of Education in Turkey.
We are inviting Turkish heritage speakers (Americans of Turkish origin born and raised in the U.S.) to take part in our research study. Participants will be tested in two sessions, one in English and one in Turkish. Sessions vary in length, but the total of two sessions will not exceed 2,5 hours. In the sessions, participants will be asked to describe a short incident shown on video. They will receive $45 after the second session. Sessions will be conducted about 3-7 days apart from each other.
