Some readers may remember the 1981 film "Üç Kağıtçı." It stars the beloved actor Kemal Sunal, who is missed by millions today. He plays Rıfkı, a man returning home to his village in Turkey after working in Germany. The film begins with him getting a ride from a kind motorist while waiting on the side of a road. Once in the village, he wins everyone's love and becomes mayor. But as you might guess from the title, there's more to the story.

How does this defense work? Let's say someone is selling an expensive racing bicycle. They tell the buyer that the bicycle has never been in an accident. But the seller knows this is not true. The frame was cracked during a crash in a bicycle race. The damage was hidden with paint. That's an example of fraud. If the seller said, "This bicycle is damaged. Now if the buyer discovers this and says, "The deal is off. You lied to me about the bicycle's condition." The seller might say, "Sorry, we have a contract." But the fraud destroys the contract. The buyer could say, "Your fraud ended the deal." Naturally, things are more complex in real life. But this is the basic idea with the "üç kağıtçı."
