When life brings us disappointment, we sometimes try to soften it with the words, "her şeyde bir hayır vardır." I know a family that found the home of their dreams. But in this hot real estate market, someone outbid them and got the house instead. They were frustrated. They were angry. But two months later, they found a house they liked even more, in a better school district. They were delighted they didn't buy the first house.

This past summer, we saw quite a few shark attacks. I know there's not much "hayır" in being attacked by a shark. But in one such attack, the victim learned he had an illness he wasn't aware of. While getting care for the shark injuries at the hospital, doctors saw the signs of the illness and intervened early. I had a friend who was betrayed after starting a new company. Her business partner stole money from the expense account. My friend parted ways with the deceitful partner. She met with an attorney and dissolved the partnership. She went on to achieve greater success on her own in a venture involving textiles. The betrayal was like the "bee" in this humorous video... Here's another example. One of my client's kids had a minor fender bender in a store parking lot. Luckily no one was injured. I told the family I'd review their family's insurance as a courtesy. Together we looked at umbrella policies, higher coverage limits, and car registration issues. The parking lot mishap was a minor headache. But we used it as an opportunity to learn.
