It's no secret that many people don't like lawyers. People love teachers, nurses, and pilots. But when it comes to lawyers, feelings can be less positive. Maybe it's because encounters with lawyers could be negative. A lawyer could be suing them for a judgment. A lawyer could be threatening to close down their store or restaurant. It isn't always pleasant.

Yet at the same time, many people often like and trust their own lawyers who are working for them. Their own lawyers have been helpful. They were always there for them. Their lawyers saw them through stormy times. Well, those things can make for more positive impressions.

As with anything, people's feelings can be positive or negative. If a lawyer is threatening to freeze someone's bank account in a debt collection, that experience is dreadful. If someone is in a nasty divorce battle, that legal experience can be bitter. People have negative feelings here.

At the same time, many people have been saved by their lawyers. Their lawyer kept them from being evicted from their apartment. Their lawyer fought for them in court, maybe not quite as creatively or amusingly as in this cartoon...
