Going to court can be good... or it can be bad. It all depends on the circumstances. If someone is suing for car accident injuries, receiving money could give closure to their pain. But for someone accused of a crime, the experience could be terrifying. Their freedom is in the hands of twelve people staring at them from across the courtroom.
"Do these jurors hate me?"
"Do they sympathize with me?"
"Who knows? I could be sent to prison based on how these twelve total strangers decide."
This may be why people try to make deals before a jury reaches its verdict. A jury symbolizes justice... a panel of one's peers. Video - The jury's role in a court trial - https://youtu.be/zKjooItGUpE
But a jury also symbolizes uncertainty. One never knows how a jury will decide. Yes, attorneys for both sides can screen jurors. They can dismiss the ones who carry anger or prejudice.
But who knows what goes through the minds of jurors? The jury is supposed to decide with their heads. But their hearts can also play a role in their decision. You can't keep a juror from disliking someone because of the way they're dressed or the way they speak.
That's why many deals and settlements are made at the last minute, before the jury decides. Like a casino, it could be a game that no one has control over...
