In law school, students are taught something called the "Mailbox Rule." Here's how it works. You're a merchant selling lanterns at Kapalı Çarşı. A factory mails you an offer to sell you lanterns at $10 each. Wonderful! You place your acceptance in the mailbox. But then the factory realizes they made a bad deal. They mail out a second letter taking back their offer. You receive this second letter AFTER mailing your acceptance. Was a contract formed here?

According to the "Mailbox Rule," a contract was formed when you dropped your acceptance letter in the mailbox. But this isn't 1930. It's 2023! People make deals from coffee shops on their cell phones. They send contracts from airports from their laptops. Everything is instantaneous. Just like buying a book online. Or liking someone on social media. No delay. No mail by steamship. Speaking of contracts, a very important contract involves residential leases - Kira Kontratı Yaparken Nelere Dikkat Etmeli? https://youtu.be/zKfXydThk7I?si=BwuDzGF9jU5JIA3t

Young people today could laugh at these kinds of rules about mailboxes. After all, we live in a world where phone booths have disappeared. People sometimes laugh at the idea of faxing a document to someone. Shops sometimes look at you funny if you want to pay in cash. But we should realize that technology has changed so much in recent years. And as with anything, it always makes sense to check on the latest laws or requirements with someone knowledgeable about contract law... and avoid poor guidance - KILAVUZU KARGA OLANIN BURNU... It was only a few short decades ago that mailing a contract from one city to another was the only way to go. You wrote your offer. You put it in an envelope. You put a stamp on the envelope and walked over to a mailbox. You waited two weeks for an acceptance, which also came in the mail. So if you think about it, it made sense to have such rules for mailboxes. And speaking of Kapalı Çarşı, this short video might serve to show its uniqueness - Istanbul Grand Bazaar (Kapalı çarşi) Walking Tour https://youtu.be/Cko3TI3SYkA?si=sHBMiD3hhPEqcD8O

In so many areas of the law, technology has changed things overnight. If you don't consider the background history, such a rule about mailboxes could seem odd. And in reading a contract, it's good to pay attention to definitions and meanings. For instance, the word "kanun" means law, which can be a dull subject. On the other hand, a "kanun" can create beautiful music - Street musician in Istanbul play amazing kanun https://youtu.be/spcuJ4Rtg3o?si=AcPHf1ZBqTphXSfl
